Bio:

Born in Columbus, Georgia, Andrew Tatum discovered art at an early age. With many years of experience, he is both a self-taught and formally educated artist. He is a certified P-12 Art Teacher in Georgia, with a Bachelor of Science in Education in Art Education from Columbus State University. He is currently pursuing his Master’s degree in Art Education at Columbus State University in Columbus, Georgia, with plans to teach visual art in the Muscogee County School District.

He is skilled in using a variety of media, including graphite, charcoal, ink, watercolor, acrylic, oil, and digital media. Most of his works consist of realistic paintings and drawings.

Andrew’s art centers on portraiture, specifically capturing the essence of African Americans. His work delves into how individuals are perceived and how they choose to present themselves, highlighting their attitudes and personal expressions. By documenting the evolving trends in appearance, he creates a timeless reflection of individuality. His goal is to portray people not merely as subjects of his paintings but as individuals with a distinct sense of identity and selfhood.

Although most of his work consists of realistic portrait drawings, he has also expressed his ideas through a wide range of subjects, including animals, plant life, motors, and environments. Andrew has shown the ability to express his ideas through drawings, paintings, sculptures, and murals.

Andrew also has much experience collaborating with other artists as both a student/intern and a mentor. He has led and worked with other artists and community leaders on multiple community art projects. Andrew also enjoys doing a lot of community work, working with multiple nonprofits that provide much-needed resources to teens and community members. He works as a volunteer, volunteer coordinator, and program leader with Teen Resource 5 Inc. RawsonStrong Community Outreach, Turn Around Columbus: G.W Carver Victory Garden & Farm, and other nonprofits.

With many pieces of art to come, he plans to expand his portfolio by experimenting with different art styles, movements, and media as he progresses toward his career as an artist.
